Prevention and Control of Environment Pollution Caused by Solid Wastes

Newly Revised Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Environment Pollution Caused by Solid Wastes to Be Implemented as of September, 2020

On April 29, 2020, the National People’s Congress of China passed the revised Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Environment Pollution Caused by Solid Wastes, to enter in force as of September 1, 2020.

The newly revised Law establishes the practicing of green development modes and the promotion of cleaner production and circular economy at state level. The law stresses the importance of following the principles of reduction, recycling and control of environment pollution caused by solid wastes and proposes to gradually target zero import of solid wastes.

In order to strengthen the control over plastic pollution the law also make the producer responsible for the electrical and electronic equipment, lead accumulators, vehicle power batteries, and other related products, for its waste on electrical and electronic equipment.

It is made clear in the law that the state encourages producers to conduct ecological design and promote resources recycling.
