16 Jun Brazil: ABICHAMA talks about the role of flame retardants in plastics for Plástico Moderno magazine

Sylvio Moreira do Carmo Jr, president of ABICHAMA, was interviewed by Plástico Moderno (Modern Plastic) for a special edition of the magazine on the use of flame retardants in plastic materials, which was published in late March. The article was highlighted on the cover and addressed the importance of applying flame retardants in plastics such as PVC to improve its performance against fire, as well as the standards that are being developed and the state of the Brazilian market.

Sylvio pointed out the discussion of the project “Plastics – Orientation on Fire Characteristics and Performance of PVC-based Products Applied to Buildings”, for which ABICHAMA contributed to its creation and that should result in a standard with more precise and comprehensive instructions for the application of flame retardants in PVC-based products, currently governed by the guidelines of ISO 1043-4. In the article, Sylvio also explained how flame retardants act during the condensed and steam phases of the production of PVC parts, and highlighted the more than two hundred different types of flame retardants that cover a variety of applications.
